Tough Weekend of Results

Doxa at Home Depot Center
It ended up being a tough weekend of games for Doxa, as the side went a very unfamiliar 0 for 3.

On Friday night, the team lost to Angel Confrontational top of the table side Zicuiran F.C, 3-1. The lone goal coming off a Steve Chirgwin penalty in the first half.

On Sunday, Doxa traveled to Azusa to take on new side FC Takwaba. In what was a rain drenched game, Doxa fell 4-2 (with no help from very poor officiating). Ryan Taylor grabbed both goals in that game.

Monday saw the team take on the LA Galaxy Academy side at the Home Depot Center. The game was played in the stadium, on the same field as the MLS Cup Final Sunday. It turned out to be a very entertaining game, with the younger Academy team taking advantage of tired Doxa legs on a 3-2 final score. Steve Chirgwin got the first goal, while Ryan Taylor got the second.

There will be no games this coming weekend, due to Thanksgiving celebrations!

Doxa Take 6-3 Win Over Salinas Tires (Angels C)

Doxa continued their good form in the Angels Confrontational league with a solid 6-3 win over Salinas Tires.

Steve Chirgwin got things rolling with a neat finish on the back post, after Derk Droze jumped to nod a cross back across goal. The second was a cracking finish, with Chirgwin chipping the keeper from outside the box, the ball looped in just underneath the post. The third came from Johnny Alcaraz as he grabbed his 4th goal in 2 games, this time Droze drilled a shot from the top of the box that the keep could only parry into Alcaraz path. The score at half was 3-1.

Doxa continued good form in the second, and having gone interchanged goals before finishing with a fine 6-3 win. Justin Commins, playing in the second half, won then lost, then won the yellow jersey for this week. He gave away a penalty, then saved it, before scuffing a back-pass into the forwards path right before the end of the game! Well deserved Justin!

New Yellow Jersey Released

Doxa Yellow Jersey

Those associated with Doxa Italia will be familiar with our famous “Yellow Jersey”, well we are proud to unveil our latest top to be worn by the weekends worst standout performer! Each week, the t-shirt will be passed to a player who either missed a 5-yard gimmey, produced the best own-goal finish of the season or someone who manages to take the most obvious foul throw of all-time. It varies by week of course and thankfully senior players have a much higher weighted vote!

Thanks to Richie Million for breaking it in and modelling last night – he received the jersey for getting nut-megged two consecutive weeks.

Shout out to the he t-shirt was creator and Doxa midfielder, Vardan Adzemian, who owns Vadeal Print, check out his site if you are looking for affordable garment printing solutions on any budget!
