Doxa Lose in 1st Annual Charity Shield

Doxa fell to a tough 4-1 loss versus PSA Elite in the inaugural Charity Shield game on Saturday night. It was a harsh result in reality, and 2 own goals summed up Doxa’s luck on the night.

It had all started so differently, with Gugo Adzemian scoring for Doxa after only 3 minutes. PSA scored shortly before half-time to leave the score at 1-1. It was the all important 3rd goal that changed things and unfortunately for Doxa it went to PSA. Needing to get back into the game, Doxa sent players forward – on two resultant break-aways, PSA won free-kicks and Doxa conceeded two very unfortunate own-goals.

Next weekend Doxa play their final game of the year versus Hollywood All-Stars in Angels Confrontational action.

CSL Charity Shield Game This Weekend

CSL Charity Shield

This weekend, Doxa take on PSA Elite in what will be the first ever CSL Charity Shield game. Both teams did fantastically well in the National Championship this summer and it will be a battle between two of the best amateur teams in the country!

All support is very much welcomed – we hope to see you all there!

Tough Weekend of Results

Doxa at Home Depot Center
It ended up being a tough weekend of games for Doxa, as the side went a very unfamiliar 0 for 3.

On Friday night, the team lost to Angel Confrontational top of the table side Zicuiran F.C, 3-1. The lone goal coming off a Steve Chirgwin penalty in the first half.

On Sunday, Doxa traveled to Azusa to take on new side FC Takwaba. In what was a rain drenched game, Doxa fell 4-2 (with no help from very poor officiating). Ryan Taylor grabbed both goals in that game.

Monday saw the team take on the LA Galaxy Academy side at the Home Depot Center. The game was played in the stadium, on the same field as the MLS Cup Final Sunday. It turned out to be a very entertaining game, with the younger Academy team taking advantage of tired Doxa legs on a 3-2 final score. Steve Chirgwin got the first goal, while Ryan Taylor got the second.

There will be no games this coming weekend, due to Thanksgiving celebrations!

Doxa Continue Unbeaten CSL Start, 4-0

Doxa maintained their 100% record to the new CSL season with a good 4-0 win over a very competitive Genesis FC team.

The newly promoted squad put on a good showing, but goals from Gabe Valencia and Steve Chirgwin in the first half, coupled with their keeper receiving a red for a punch, left Doxa in control of the game. Ilia Nazarov and Andrew Villalobos locked up the win with goals in the second.

Doxa Continue Winning Ways With 7-0 Win

Doxa continued their 100% start to the CSL season with a comprehensive 7-0 win over promoted Irvine City FC.

It was a very foggy night at Manhattan Village, with a great crowd on-hand to watch the Saturday night game. In the first half, Doxa cemented their superiority, with several senior players chalking up some goals. Derk Droze, Steve Chirgwin and Sean Lockhart were all involved in the first four goals, leaving the score at 4-0 by half-time. Having made several changes, Doxa continued to push forward in the second half. Ryan Loza scored his first goal for the club, before Lockhart scored his second of the game and fourth of the CSL season – leaving him as top scorer. Bryan Byrne scored the final goal after coming off the bench.

Shout out to Chirgy’s club team for coming out to support, their appearance definitely produced a top class performance from the seasoned veteran!

3-0 Win Over Artesia Maintains Unbeaten Start

Doxa continued winning ways on Sunday with a solid 3-0 away win over Artesia DES.

In similar fashion to Friday nights game, it didn’t take Doxa long to get on the scoresheet and it was again Bryan Byrne. Steve Merker applied some pressure on the defender who played a weak ball back to his keeper, Byrne ran into it and beat the keeper with a low shot. Byrne turned provided for the second when his cross from the right was met on the full volley by Vardan Adzemian. The keeper had no chance, giving Adzemian his first Doxa goal. The score stayed at 2-0 until half-time with Doxa bossing the game.

In the second half, Doxa introduced several subs including Matt Upton for the first time in over a year. But, it was another sub that got on the scoresheet for the third goal. Devin Toohey played a ball down the right side to Andrew Villalobos, who beat his man and found Tai Doan in the area. Doan took a touch before drilling his shot past the keeper, sealing the win. Doxa could and probably should have scored a few more, but it was a solid away win and the 3-0 scoreline did the game justice. Doxa were particularly strong at the back, with Spencer Shortland putting in a solid display – although the referee did have words with him before halftime!!

Stars United Prove Tough Opposition – Doxa Get Win

Doxa 4 – Stars United 2

Saturday nights encounter at the village proved to be a competitive game, but Doxa eventually prevailed to start the season with back-to-back wins. Stars United came into the game on some tough results, but started very well and took somewhat of a surprise lead, mid-way through the first half. It took some graft, but Doxa came back with two goals before half time, the first coming from Raul Dominguez off a “cross-shot” from way out on the right. It was Dominguez first goal as a Doxa player.  A few minutes before halftime, Mike Piechota got on the score sheet and gave Doxa the lead. After some neat work at the top of the box, his shot was deflected by a defender and made its way past the hapless keeper. Sean Lockhart was unlucky not to score right on the stroke of halftime, as his chip from 25 yards out ended up hitting the post.

Shortly into the second half, Tai Doan got on the score sheet as his  solidshot also deflected off a defenders leg and past the keeper. But Stars United stayed working hard, scoring on a breakaway and nearly pulling level when a free kick hit the Doxa woodwork. With less than 10 minutes left, Lockhart sealed the win for Doxa – this time his deft chip just crept in under the bar, giving Doxa a 4-2 win. Definitely saved the best for last!

Next weekend, Doxa play their first away game vs Artesia DES.
